I found myself pleasantly surprised at some of the insights and lessons I encountered in this book - both about Disney and personal development - and I defnitely plan to read it again.I have one minor quibble with the book: I would have liked the book to have an index, as there are lots of concepts and stories in this book, and finding them after the fact is difficult without an index.With examples from every corner of Walt Disney World and topics ranging from managing your time to overcoming obstacles to communicating clearly to leaving a legacy, Beyond the Wisdom of Walt offers success lessons for all of us.As you can probably guess, I definitely recommend this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and content of this book. I am a huge fan on Walt Disney and his influence on American culture. Like the author, I visit the theme parks as often as I can and draw inspiration from the imagination and sheer resolve of the man responsible for the creation of such an iconic American institution. Mr. Barnes does a very good job of using Walt's life to help us apply his lessons to our own lives. As an educator, I also weave his creations and life into my lessons for my high school seniors.Read the first book as well, both are well worth the time of true Disney fans.

I was really looking forward to this book because I found the first one (The Wisdom of Walt) to be one of the best books I have read in the last couple of years. This book delivered everything I was expecting. It was an easy and enjoyable read and I am looking forward to putting the lessons here into practice. You can really tell Mr. Jeff Barnes is passionate about the subject of Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort. I don't know if there will be a third book in this series, but if there is, it will be a welcomed addition to my library!

I have admired Walt Disney for being an individual with many talents. I look to him as a mentor because of how he used his wisdom to become the entrepreneur he was.I enjoy reading books and learning what was done to make the Disney Corporation so prosperous. After reading a book, I try to utilize what I have learned to enhance some aspect of my life. Many authors have penned such books. Jeff Barnes' is one of them and in his latest book: Beyond the Wisdom of Walt, I found some extraordinary insight if you want to have a successful life.This book is Mr. Barnes second about Walt's foresight. Many individuals feared that when Walt died so did his dreams and wisdom. Mr. Barnes writes that this is far from the truth and that the culture Walt developed while he was alive (learn more by reading The Wisdom of Walt) did indeed survive and grow after his death. Also, similarly, just as we gained lessons from when Walt was alive, we can learn from the teachings ingrained into those he left behind after his passing.Mr. Barnes teaches us about positive life lessons using Disney and in my opinion, uses true Disney style-storytelling. His book revolves around Walt Disney World, which is a park that I frequently visit. This affiliation helped me since I could paint mental pictures to what he wrote in the chapters. He explains to the reader that Walt Disney World ought to be looked at more than a place to escape reality, but as a consolation that everything can be okay. He utilizes the challenges faced by the Imagineers building Walt Disney World following Walt's death to teach us how they used Walt's influence to move the project forward giving the Disney company and the world hope and reassurance that Disney could survive without Walt. I applaud Jeff Barnes for teaching us how to do this using Walt Disney World as an example.In one chapter, Mr. Barnes talks about letting things go and not to dwell on them because it could hinder your progress. He writes about how it snowed on Main Street in Disneyland shortly after Walt Disney's death, and how Cast Members interpreted that weather phenomenon as Walt telling them to let his death go (letting past things go) and move forward (look to the future, build your snowman!). I am sure (just as it did me) that this will stir any diehard Disney enthusiasts emotions.I am facing a great challenge at this moment in my life. I am working hard to be optimistic and positive that things will work out but it is not easy. Is it coincidental that Mr. Barnes' book came along when it did and that I reflect on the words he wrote when I am down? It is my feeling that this book is like the flurries of snow on Main Street at Disneyland that December 1966 day after Walt's passing. It gives me motivation for the future and will be on my desk as a reminder.I recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve the person they are. It is witty, composed and sure to touch your emotions so that you can be persuaded to learn from it. Mr. Barnes is a higher education administrator, a university professor, international speaker, and a life coach. However, I felt when reading this book that he was a friend speaking directly to me and inspiring me just as if Walt Disney would do today if he were here. Casting Spells is in my opinion the best book to read after Earth Magic. The way that Karfia Zoe writes is so soothing and comprehensive, that you can tell it comes from her heart. The techniques she puts forth in Casting Spells can't be stressed enough. You get out of them what you put into them. She stresses the fact that your own words are the most powerful. I can tell you from my own experience that the more feeling and emotion you put into your spells, the better and quicker the results. This review is for Talking to the Goddess. This book had a profound affect on me. I had never given the Goddess her due. This book changed all that. I always looked at the Goddess as the feminine side of the Creator! Never as a desperate deity that worked along side The Great Father Spirit and was in charge of everything upon the earth, (Mother Nature, Earth Mother, so to speak.) Native Americans I have met say this has been an accepted fact since creation, for them. Also the ancient essences made reference and gave her reverence. I had always felt that the living things in nature including the animals could communicate to you if you listened, like turning a radio dial. This book will help you to understand that we can get help and the answers we seek if we tune ourselves into Nature and The Goddess.

These are helpful references for both the beginner as well as practitioners who wish to review the basics. While communicating with the Goddess with a clear and focused mind is helpful, I myself, converse with the Goddess throughout each day whenever the need arises, whether for help in finding lost objects, or seeking clarity, guidance and protection in personal situations. Daily, I respectfully invoke the Elements, especially Air energy when a gentle wind is needed to cool or clear cigarette smoke from posted non-smoking areas. Various crystals from around the world share my home and workplace, providing balance, courage, clearer communication, harmony, healing energy, and protection. Easily understood, and a comfort to read, this two-book set should be an important part of any beginner or practitioner’s reference library. Well done!

These books made a great pair. Great for beginners and also some wonderful nuggets of wisdom for non-beginners. The Universal Laws discussed in Casting Spells poses as a wonderful reminder for all of us practicing the Craft that we must remain positive and send out the right kind of energy in order to see any positive results. I appreciated the tips in Talking to the Goddess that provide simple yet effective ways to strengthen our relationship with the Divine. Especially for the beginner, it makes creating and nurturing a relationship with the Divine seem more attainable and not as complicated as it can be made out to be.

Zoe writes to insure that everyone can clearly understand what is necessary for casting spells. The intention and the warning of asking for something that is not morally right is stressed. Stating that spellbooks are to be used only as guidelines is wonderful, especially for beginners. As for talking with the Goddess...that is something we should all be doing. Rituals and daily activities should speak directly to the Divine and the dialogue should come from within our own spiritual beings, not from someone else's thoughts and ideas. We are the Divine.

I liked this book a lot. As a fairly new witch I usually read such books and take in the info/opinions. I use what works for me and leave what doesn't. Part 1 of this book, Casting Spells had me pulling out my BOS and taking notes as I went along. That was a lot of fun for me. I really gleened some fantastic info about spell work, using the elements and various tools. Part 2 Talking to the Goddess was beautiful. Body, health, energy & emotions all connected to everything seen and unseen is what I walked away with. Very empowering to me as a witch and as a woman.

These books are great for beginning practitioners of Wicca. Written in a friendly, very readable style - the author makes it enjoyable to digest a lot of information (new, for many).The first book helps me feel more confident about spell work, which I have been nervous about doing wrong. And the second book reminds me to, and how to, stay in touch with and open to the influence of the divine (and that even for a born Catholic, this doesn't have to take place in church!).These two books are a natural pair, discussing energy both from the source and channeled for a purpose. Will revisit often.

This was a great two-book set! Casting spells isn't so much a book of recipe spells, but explains the the Universal Laws of spell work, guidence on how to use magical tools, herbs, crystals, & candles. There's also a great reference guide for the magical energies & properties of plans and herbs used in spellwork.Talking with the Goddess is great guide for learning to control your thoughts, and state of mind by training in meditation. She gives some wonderful grounding techniques, instructions on how to find a mantra to fits you, and lessons for pranayama.

This book was a revelation to me. Like virtually all students of the law, I was taught that the primary purpose of the criminal justice system was to adjudicate the guilt or innocence of individual defendants. While this picture was complicated somewhat by the prevalence of guilty pleas, the basic role of the courts was never in doubt. But in this book, Professor Kohler-Hausmann presents a compelling argument that misdemeanor courts in at least some jurisdictions use a very different model of operation, the managerial model:"Under the managerial model, the practical orientation of criminal court actors and their regular operations are largely organized around the supervision and regulation of the population that flows through misdemeanor courts, often with little attention to questions of law and facts in individual cases. The vision of criminal law's social control role in the managerial model is to sort and regulate people over time. The criminal process is deployed to figure out the rule-abiding propensities of people and to calibrate formal regulation appropriately."This theory is backed up by quantitative research about the disposition of misdemeanor cases in New York City and the characteristics of misdemeanor defendants, as well as a qualitative evaluation of the types of tools courts and prosecutors use in individual cases. The author emphasizes the fact that this managerial model is not the result of a preordained political or judicial agenda, but rather the culmination of a series of adaptations that the criminal justice system has made to cope with a flood of misdemeanor cases. The author concludes with a discussion of the costs and benefits of this managerial model, acknowledging its practical benefits while highlighting the way that this model, "like so many others in criminal justice, functions to either reproduce class and racial inequality or manage the effects of class and racial inequality in a punitive fashion."This is a concise, accessible, deeply-researched, and theoretically ground-breaking book that should be considered essential reading for anyone interested in the operation of our criminal justice system.

The content is good, but it is written in a clinical, dissertation way. It is a bit dry. It is clearly well-researched but hard to get through.

About the Author

David P. Clark did his graduate work on bacterial antibiotic resistance to earn his Ph.D. from Bristol University, in the West of England. During this time, he visited the British Government's biological warfare facility at Porton Down and was privileged to walk inside the (disused) Black Death fermenter. He later crossed the Atlantic to work as a postdoctoral researcher at Yale University and then the University of Illinois. David Clark recently retired from teaching Molecular Biology and Bacterial Physiology at Southern Illinois University which he joined in 1981. His research into the Regulation of Alcohol Fermentation in E. coli was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, from 1982 till 2007. From 1984-1991 he was also involved in a project to use genetically altered bacteria to remove contaminating sulfur from coal, jointly funded by the US Department of Energy and the Illinois Coal Development Board. In 1991 he received a Royal Society Guest Research Fellowship to work at Sheffield University, England while on sabbatical leave. He has supervised 11 master’s and 7 PhD students and published approximately 70 articles in scientific journals. He has written or co-authored several textbooks, starting with Molecular Biology Made Simple and Fun (with Lonnie Russell; (Cache River Press, First edition, 1997) which is now in its fourth edition. Other books are Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (both published by Elsevier) He recently wrote a popular science book, Germs, Genes, & Civilization: How Epidemics Shaped Who We Are Today (2010, Financial Times Press/Pearson). David is unmarried, but his life is supervised by two cats, Little George and Mr Ralph.Nanette J. Pazdernik, Ph.D. is a co-author of Biotechnology, 2nd edition and Molecular Biology, 2nd edition, with Dr. David Clark. The second edition of Molecular Biology won a Texty award from the Textbook and Academic Authors Association in 2013. She has also authored an on-line study guide to accompany the update edition of Molecular Biology. She has taught courses in General Biology, Genetics, as well as Anatomy and Physiology at Southwestern Illinois College, McKendree University, and Harris-Stowe University. She received her BA in Biology from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1990 and her PhD in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology and Genetics from the University of Minnesota in 1996. Her doctoral thesis studied how alterations in the structure of lactose permease affect its ability to transport sugar across the membrane of E. coli. Following her degrees, she investigated the IL-1 and TNF signal transduction pathways that control apoptosis and immunity at Indiana University School of Medicine. She has most recently studied the various molecules that maintain the stem cell fate in C. elegans at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. She is married and the mother of three children, ages 15, 12, and 8, which always make her realize the role biology plays in personality and development!

I am a math graduate student using this book as a reference for an interdisciplinary research project. I do not have much background in biology or chemistry - about a high school level for both - and I find this book accessible, easy to navigate, and extremely informative. It is current enough for a reference book, but it would be wise to conduct research into recent advancements if you are interested in specific progress within the field of biotechnology.

Great book. A little technical but I enjoyed it. Not keeping any domestic workers employed since it is printed in china. The print quality is excellent.

About the Author

Frederich Nietzsche (1844-1900) became the chair of classical philology at Basel University at the age of 24 until his bad health forced him to retire in 1879. I cannot think of one book that has more influence on me than Thus Spoke Zarathustra. It is a book that I once read at least once a year and it never failed to fill my mind with hope and ideas. I totally disagree with those who consider Nietzsche to be hard, stern, and without hope. I find nothing but hope in the works of Nietzsche. He deepest desire was to see humans remove the yoke of any oppressive ideologies which hindered thoughts and imagination. My initial reading of Zarathustra was very disappointing. I was not ready for the very stylized language he used but subsequent reading made me look beyond the style and see the thoughts behind them and then yielded the wisdom beneath. I make no claims to entirely understand Nietzsche but someone who dropped out before reaching high school I believe I have a fairly good grasp of his overall principles. His ideas are not so abstract that only scholars can understand them. I have now read most of his major works and consider him the single greatest influence on my own life and the perceptions of various institutions. As an atheist I was naturally drawn to his hostility towards most forms of organized religions---the exception for Nietzsche being Buddhism--but he was not grim or dour about this and always championed the "yay-saying" and discouraged the "nay-saing". His words can come across as a bit hard and cold but he felt he was in a desperate battle with a force that was robbing humanity of it's humanity and there was no sense mincing words about the consequences. He would have hated the Nazis. They were everything he despised about the regressive nature of humanity. The were devoid of all hope and their perverse use of the philosophy would have sickened him. This is a book that is still very valid and vital to the health of humanity. It should be read and reread.

A very good and dense book. I don't know if it was the prose, the translation, or the age of language in the text, but I found myself reading a few passages multiple times to really understand it. But all-and-all, a great read.People have spent decades writing long explanations and commentary on the book, so I'll simply say that much of it I could relate to my own challenges and experiences in life and that its message resonated with me.

This is a good, straightforward and fairly literal translation, with helpful notes -- not too many, but useful. I much prefer it to the work of Walter Kaufmann which has for a long time been standard fare for university reading. Walter was better than the Nazified edition with the author's sister to speak for him. But there is a great deal of self-important nonsense by Mr. Kaufmann in his edition. Here we have a fine translation that may well become the new university standard, at least it is for me.

I believe Nietzsche saw his "Zarathurstra" as his magnum opus, the artistic-expressive summary of his beliefs.It is a wonderful book, and anyone who has read his other works will find that "Zarathustra" really does synthesize and summarize those other works.The challenge with "Zarathustra" and Nietzsche's other works, is the depth and breadth of his experience and scholarship. The more I read his works, the more I realize I miss...and to some degree must miss! I have a limited background in Classical studies, but not to the extent Nietzsche did. As another for-instance - I do not speak or read French or Italian, and so I can only analytically understand Nietzsche's statements about the cadences of those languages, and their connection to their local habitats, and the way they both reflect and influence their speakers' demeanors. Oh well! Something to shoot for, for me, I guess, to learn Spanish and French....and, German?!This is a very good translation with good end-notes. There are some references I think the translator missed, but that's ok.

Nietzche dances along the edge of schizophrenia, which a Horrobin has noted is HUMAN WRIT LARGE.There is nothing exceptional in normalcy, by definition, therefore only madmen can be geniuses.I Am well acquainted with schizophrenia, and Nietzche's work offers an insight into their intense inner world.He was spurned by the sane, not for loving too little, but for loving too intensely.You will wait in vain for the promised superman to emerge, for this is a story of his gestation, not his birth. We await his birth wondering who he is; and what his nature.Perhaps this is an overhang from Nietzche's monotheists past, with all their talk of "The Return of the Messiah"Us Vanatru, one the other hand, have our Sacred and eternal Wheel of Life.
