He explains why some of those choices in the past worked and some obviously didn't while providing some excellent ideas to change inequality and make the economy more prosperous.One of the problems with the economy is the rewarding of "short-termism" over long term investment. Witness the gambling with derivatives.Trade agreements are another issue where the agreements are more "managed trade" than "free trade."He provides a solution for high pharmaceutical costs and calls for transparency in financial markets.The tax system encourages speculation over actual work or labor.A helpful feature is the definition of economic terms throughout the book.The best part of the book is that the author not only explains what is wrong with the American economy, he explains how it can be corrected.

An important text where the author, a Nobel Prize in economics, explicates the new trends. The first concept, which should be considered, is the similarity between Usa and Europe: those two models are always less different, but we can observe how certain aspects are the same. Surely the big multi-national agencies are a characteristic of Usa, but the rights of workers become similar. The welfare is a politics which with Obama has got his decisions and he tryied to preserve the wages of workers. The excesses of free market in this book are seen with attention, without the use of game theory. In this book, Joseph Stiglitz and his collaborators once again (see The Price of Inequality) present the depressing side of the US economy and its society. Once again, they are doing this not to advance ideas of radical socialism and undermine the capitalist model, robbing "the 1%" of their wealth - rather they are explaining the widening inequality gap and how the wage and general financial oppression of the working and middle class hampers future aggregate demand.Various policies enacted by those with political power have resulted in deunionization (and lower wage negotiation power for employees), an opaque (lack of visibility with regard to competition and better value) health care system, a loosely regulated financial system that bilks the consumer and many other issues that are not only immoral, but are bad for the long-term health of the US economy. These immoralities result in many Americans getting a far worse deal than people in other advanced nations.Stiglitz does not go into gun control or other patently ridiculous constitutional injustices, rather he re-iterates that the ideals of capitalism - while it has made the US into the powerful economy that it is today - have gone too far.I live in Australia, a country that makes it almost impossible to buy a gun, has free university which allows you to pay back your loan when you start working and free healthcare, for the most part. So it makes me sad to see that a country which seems so great on the surface, is actually well behind the curve on social equality.One does not have to go as far as the Nordic countries - where a terrorist who killed over 100 people received a prison sentence of 21 years - however a balance must be found to improve the lot of the masses while fortifying the engine of the American economic machine to insure long-term prosperity.

An extension of the wealth inequality argument with some proposals to mitigate it. Training , education and better health care , particularly for children, are necessities. A progressive tax system without being handout based on the spending end is ideal but nobody in DC is going for that.We may already be seeing the start ion significant erosion of the consumer market on the lower end based on long term loan debt ( autos and education) and salaries not pacing inflation. In this country that will not work for long. Bob Reich's Saving Capitalism is also worth reading.

This book makes a lot of sense...as do his other books. I'll never understand why Mr Stieglitz was not tapped by president Obama to be Sec of Treasury. His solutions to our economic troubles are , in a word, brilliant and at the same time simple. In fact, policies like his could possibly have prevented the anger and frustration that put an idiot in the White House.

Stiglitz has a terrific way of distilling out the key economic issues he is addressing then netting out what appears to be simple policy adjustments needed for course correction; ignoring the prevailing political will to do so.

Interesting discussion of current inequalities in the American economy and multiple proposals to eliminate them. Mr. Stiglitz compares the current state of the economy with various times in the nation's past, and demonstrates how many ideas that were supposed to create wealth and boost all of society have resulted in increasing income/wealth only for the top of the economic ladder. His ideas to decrease the overall levels of economic inequality within the US seem logical, and are coherently expounded upon within the book. However, it is very doubtful that his ideas will be adopted/applied in the near future based upon the current polarized state of the US political system. Still, the book was an interesting read given the issues facing the modern day economy.

It contains life-changing insights into how Jesus operated to prepare his disciples for world evangelism. This is totally worth your time to read and put into practice.In The Master Plan of Evangelism, the author, Robert Coleman, does an amazing job at presenting Jesus' ministry strategy from a big picture level. Yet Coleman does so in a way that makes the strategy digestible for replication. That is the brilliance of this book; it is a true and effective outline of Jesus' methods that anyone can imitate. He even makes the point that Jesus' methods are so powerful, that they work well even when non-Christians use them.Conversely, when people use Jesus' teaching in a partial, uncoordinated, independent, pick-and-choose manner, the results are less inspiring, to say the least. Coleman even emphasizes that religious groups should not assume that the average untrained member is qualified to lead things without first being trained to imitate Jesus. The key is having trained leaders who can replicate what and how Jesus did things. That is how ministry really spreads.The Master Plan of Evangelism is a very short book, yet emanating with power. Since Jesus is the way, and therefore imitation of him is the way, then we all have to ask ourselves three questions:1. Have I been sufficiently trained to do these eight principles of Jesus?2. Am I personally doing each one of these eight principles on an ongoing basis? Note that it is not enough to merely agree with the principles of Jesus; we need to do them. That is true Christianity.3. Am I calling and training others to do these principles of Jesus?This is a personal assessment that all of us must make and reassess on an ongoing basis. Those who answer "yes," and whom God would agree to their "yes" on all three questions will be the mighty revolutionaries that will spread the good news all around the world, as part of the master's master plan of evangelism.

It quick and to the point. I started evangelising right after finishing the book. This knowledge has opened new doors in my life and others lives. Very helpful. But not everybody has the gift of evangelizing so don't beat yourself up if its not your bag ( don't know another way of say thing that; sorry). But this little book will make you want to get out of your cubicle little world and get the good news out there.

This little book is packed with helpful information about the approach Jesus took when making disciples. The method becomes more clear: first train the disciples and teach them to be obedient, and then show them how to go forth with power to do his work. The training seems to be focused on demonstrations of preaching the good news of salvation through faith in Christ, healing the sick, casting out devils, proclaiming deliverance to the captive, opening the eyes of the blind, and setting at liberty those who were oppressed. The training includes demonstrations, love, and constant guidance which results in the everlasting kingdom. An emphasis on close, personal guidance is an absolute must. Jesus worked with his disciples faithfully and patiently until, when the time was right, they were ultimately sent forth to tell the world about a redeeming love.

This takes the Gospel accounts and pulls out the strategy Jesus used to make disciples who would make disciples. It focuses only on the Gospels, which prevents it from gaining from the patterns in Acts and the Church growth methods that followed after Jesus left. These fit our present context more closely than did the context the disciples had with Jesus. It doesn't mean we can't transfer them to our setting, but I look forward to a study that weaves both together. For example, Paul and the apostles traveled from place to place making disciples, but never stayed 3 years with any of them. In most cases they stayed only a few days or weeks. They wrote letters and revisited, but again these were short trips. But they did have the apostles' teachings that they could leave with them.... like we do today and they had the Holy Spirit indwelling.

This isn't a book focused on evangelism methodology, so much as it is a philosophy of evangelism. The `master plan' (or `Master's plan') refers to the approach that our Lord himself took in choosing, training, and sending out the disciples to reach others.The plan breaks down into eight parts - choosing a few dedicated individuals, spending all (or much of) your time with them, insistence on holiness in life, pouring into them your own zeal for God and his purposes through the power of the Holy Spirit, modeling for them a life given to God (particularly in prayer, attention to scripture, and public ministry), sending them out to do specific ministry tasks, supervising them and keeping them accountable in those efforts, and teaching them to repeat the process themselves with new disciples.Coleman's exegesis is sound, and his emphasis on theology and philosophy over methodology is refreshing. There are a few odd missteps here and there (e.g. his comments on why the disciples were sent to `the lost sheep of Israel'), but overall this is a convicting and biblical volume on carrying the message of the kingdom.

I’m happy I read this book a few times before writing this review because my first instinct was that I didn't like this book. Comparisons to Penguin Problems are inevitable, and I was disappointed because the giraffe complaining about his neck seemed forced and doesn't come off as funny like the penguin does. The second time I read it, I realized this is not a funny book like Penguin Problems, and I was expecting it to be funny and read it similarly. This is a serious book that looks at self-esteem through the eyes of a giraffe and how honest communication and an unexpected friend can help increase change one’s self-image for the better and has to be read differently than Penguin Problems. This can be used to teach children about self-image and the effect positive compliments and conversation can have on a person. I’m impressed with this book, but don’t expect it to be funny like Penguin Problems.

I love this book. As always with Jory's books, it is so much fun to read aloud and the characters come alive with their funny banter. Though I smiled the whole time I was reading, there is a more serious message that can be consumed by adults and kids alike. The stellar illustrations are so complementary to the story (with a fun surprise at the end!).

Love this book. I like how the giraffe tells how he feels about how he looks and realizes in the end how special we all are. Great book for little ones, and a fantastic message for everyone. A hit!

I feel like books like this are created to give the adults reading it a break from the bland kiddy books we read over and over again. This book was Funny, sarcastic, and oh so witty. Love it.

I read this book at a school that was focusing on valuing differences and how everyone was special. The students and parents loved the book. I did, too.

The giraffe itself is really beautiful; nice face. The shade is cheap and should have been a half inch taller on t top to hide where the giraffe head screws on, and an inch to the bottom of the shade to cover where the neck attaches to the lamp base. They really cheated out on the shade. I think I will have to buy another; seated you see the bottom of the fixture at connection, standing you see the top connection.

The story is wonderful and the illustrations are outstanding!

Great story that ultimately helps children understand that our differences can bring us together and see how those differences can be a positive .

Okay, so a word of warning for anyone looking to read this book (this is from my perspective), but do not read this book unless you are ready to face some major demons internally and do some drastic shifting in your way of viewing life. I began a small women's group. It was only supposed to be 10 of us, but it grew to be 30 beautiful women...all on their own journey. My hope was that we would all read a chapter a week, discuss and move on. So after the 10 chapter were completed, in my mind, we were going to be glowing enlightened Goddesses, ready to kick ass! What I did not bank on, was the amount of internal growth that would occur. I am only on chapter 6 and I've uncovered and revived some things deep within me that need releasing. Emotional traumas and fears, you name it. All the while shifting my mindset and resetting and researching, unlearning (unearthing) and grounding myself in MY truth (which I was prompted to define). I am a firm believer in "so without, as within" so when you make these internal changes, your world WILL be affect by it, whether you like it or not. If you follow this book with an open heart and mind, you will see your life change. Your world will match what you now believe and it will adjust accordingly. Hang on tight! Its going to be a ride. I am excited (and uncomfortable) all at once because I know what's on the other side of all of this (for me and my women friends that are undergoing the same experience). I would recommend this book to every woman I know!

I want to like this book - but it's just SO extremely superficial. In my opinion it's more about "selling" this image to women that you can become this noble "Warrior Goddess" that acts from her inner wisdom and you'll just be so "deep" and open in everything you do. It offers a very idealized, almost commercialized, image of turning yourself into this "soulful being".In my experience life is much too messy and lasting insight and change takes much more work and digging than anything that's offered in this book. I agree with another review that said this book is more of a "pep talk" - very true.Absolutely no in-depth information here! Very disappointing.

This book completely changed my life, and I have gifted it to many of my friends. Before reading the book, I was unaware of the subconscious beliefs I had being in my own skin as a woman, and this book not only helped me become aware of limiting beliefs (lies, at that!) but to move through them. When I began reading this book, I was crying everyday in heartbreak and felt my self-esteem trickling away after my partner suddenly left me, with no explanation. I remember waking up one morning looking for something to read, but none of the books I was currently engaged in were interesting to me. They weren't what my heart and soul needed. I had a sample of this book downloaded on my iPad, and I opened it to check it out. Within 30 minutes, I downloaded the full copy and began a new relationship with myself. I took myself on dates to my favorite restaurants, reading the book and journaling alongside it. A new kind of love, patience, and power for myself came through the time I spent reading. The shift it created for my life and the paramount role it had in helping me heal my heart, from more than just my last relationship, was unlike anything I've ever experienced from a book. Warrior Goddess Training showed me new depths of self-love, acceptance, inner strength, clarity, and I stepped into a more complete and empowered relation to myself. I can hardly thank you enough, HeatherAsh Amara!!

I picked this book as I was at a place where I was questioning my strength due to a great loss in my life and I begin to see I was falling back into patterns of being a door mat and not moving forward on my path to my authentic self. This book was an amazing and blessed thing that showed up in my life at the exact right time.

So much love for this book. I've used several passages to speak words of compassion / wisdom / universal truth / soul food to ignite passion & inspire conscious awareness of true Self in my yoga classes. I've even started using the title itself "Warrior Goddess" to remember these deep truths as part of my "big myth" (lesson 9), to inspire myself, and also use the phrase as a greeting or closing "the Warrior Goddess in me sees / honors / loves the Warrior Goddess in You. Namaste" 🙏🏼🕉 Will definitely lead a Warrior Goddess book club in the near future & spread the love!

I have never read anything that had such an impact on my life. Before reading I was stuck in this miserable rut of depression. After reading I realized I needed to change my ways, change the way I looked at the world. I have completely changed my view of the world.

I read it through, and I can feel myself shifting. I want to read it again, slowly, chewing on it, completing the exercises, and journalling as I go through it. I have no words for the impact it made. All I can say is it resonated, deeply. I know this book was meant to be in my hands and imprinted on my heart.

I got this as a gift for my best friend who also happens to be the love of my life. No, she's not my wife. We've both been through that twice and we're not going to destroy the way we feel about each other by going that route again. She was thrilled to receive this book.! She had read about it and thought if she had owned it earlier her prior life might not have been so difficult. She's read most of it. she says she re-reads many parts because the concepts contained are so pertinent and valuable she doesn't want to miss any of the details. If you're a woman with a lot of inner strength or know one you should have this book. If you think you lack inner strength you should own this because it will probably help you realize you have much more strength than you give yourself credit for.

I’ve read many books on narcissism and they all gave me validation about what happened to me and reinforced my decision to end the relationship. An excellent book for someone who is seeking healing from narcissist relationships (partners and parents and employers) who has already read a lot of the literature and is looking for deeper information instead of a lot of personal stories.

I recently split up after a 23 year marriage. My wife was a skilled narcissist and I turned out to be the perfect target.However, I really didn’t have any understanding of narcissism. All I knew is that I just wanted this person to love me back and she wouldn’t. Over time my confidence was shot, I became socially inept, and my feelings of self-worth were almost completely depleted.By the way, I was a college athlete, I’ve started and built four technology companies, run marathons... One would think that I would be a super self-assured person. But, never underestimate the power of the narcissist. Especially if you marry one.Over the past six months I’ve been slowly understanding my past relationship by reading a lot of books, watching hours of YouTube videos, and visiting websites about narcissism.This book had been the best resource I’ve found. The author doesn’t dwell on the characteristics of narcissism but he zeros in on the hows and whys a narcissist effectively controls and destroys their target.More importantly, this book is all about explaining why some of us are such fruitful sources of narcissistic supply.It then does a great job of waking you up to the fact that the target also plays a role in the toxic relationship. The writer then clearly explains what you have to do to heal and build boundaries for yourself to ensure you never fall into another relationship with this horrible type of person again.Bottom line - if you don’t indentify and address your codependent traits you will never be happy and it’s likely you’ll attract another predator.If you are in the process of recovering from narcissistic abuse I highly recommend this book.

I have read many books on narcissism, all of which I bought from Amazon.com This is the only book I feel that teaches you how to heal. Many books focus on being a victim and really do not help that much with recovery from narcissistic abuse.

This book was a total bell-ringer. It starts with a slow simmer, showing the differences between those TARGETED by a narcissist, and then the behavior of NARCISSISTS themselves. Very valuable! OOOh...The "sanctioned superiority, and charm," (How to K...a Narcissist, JH Simon, pg. 78) hit me, hard! I had to watch the charm given to me, off and on/ OTHERS, in public, but I knew what was coming later. Then, the sanctioned superiority; 23 years of hearing how me, his wife, and MY family, could never measure up to his family... The Breaking Down Your Identity (How to K a Narcissist, JH Simon, pg.87). I used to advise my EX he could be used as a secret weapon by the CIA to break down people and totally demoralize/ destroy them.After this slow simmer of heartbreaking, but necessary, revelation; the water begins to boil rigorously. The Brain Re-Washing (How to K a Narcissist, JH Simon, pg. 100) begins. Trust me, IF you want to heal from NARCISSIST ABUSE, you need to read this book and find out the seven goals, to making yourself whole, and healing the toxic shame, the narc's use to enslave you to their devious machinations. It is really a GREAT BOOK!

I know from intimate experience what being married to a narcissist is about. The damage done to the victim/target of such relentless emotional abuse is beyond description. Pathological lying, denials, excuses, lack of empathy, kindness, being starved to death of all affection, is beyond endurance. I finally bailed out and have spent the last 3 years trying to regain my true self. This book is a must read for anyone who has endured such a relationship, be it a partner, mate, friend, work related narcissist, parent, and so forth. It's impossible to describe the living Hades that one suffers. I hope that in being transparent through sharing this very personal account that it will help others. It's difficult to admit my failure by allowing my soul to be eaten alive by an all consuming narcissist, but I feel that we are here to help one another and to say my heart goes out to anyone who is still locked in the thrall of the egomaniacal narcissist who has zero consciousness about the needs of others. This is not a bid for pity, or whatever, it's facts. Read this book. And reread it until the lessons and help therein generalizes to your heart and soul. God Bless us all!
