It is a required textbook for an interdisciplinary trip I'm going to take, I expected more information but generally for someone who is not well informed about Costa Rica, it is a good book.

So far we have enjoyed reading with our kids and getting ready for our upcoming trip to CR!

I thought it would have my pictures and things to do. It wasn't very helpful for me.

Have been reading this book, and studying the nearly accompanying National Geographic map, in preparation for our planned trip next month.

It is so nice, every now and then to make a phone call and actually have a human answer the phone...such is my experience with this book...Great book...encourage a little more information on Print Module, but, small potatoes. I previously gave the book a lower rating which prompted Victoria to respond and answer one of my many questions. I think that (or perhaps confess that) I was taking my frustration out with the vast learning curves out there on software. Indeed the QuickStart Guide in the beginning of her book helps to address this black hole, and she does manage to cover a great number of issues/questions inherent in mastering the software. And although I gave her a low rating earlier primarily because of seemingly short Print Module, I quickly discovered that she is "there" when you have any questions, and will work with you until you have the answer or understanding needed. That alone might be worth the price of the book as she is extremely knowledgable re LR and responds to questions in short order.As a former photographer who has more recently entered into the digital age, I must submit that on the one hand, the boundaries of what is possible have expanded exponentially...but then so has the complexity and depth of understanding required to master it all. I have corresponded with the authors of other technical books, specifically on Sony and Fuji cameras, books that are generally over 500 pages long as well. And though I do most certainly appreciate the contributions these authors like Victoria make to enabling me to work with a digital camera or the software required to bring pictures closer to the material realm, I sometimes admittedly feel a little flummoxed by it all...and perhaps I doth protest too much! At any rate, I will spare the rant, and simply offer my apologies to Victoria for taking my digital discontent out on her. It is perhaps a bit of a compensation from the days (which might be overly romanticized as seeming simpler) of the darkroom era to be able to pop an email off to the author of a book and get a relatively speedy answer...and Victoria does this splendidly!

I've watched so many online tutorials and webinars and I learned about everything I need from them...almost. Sometimes it seems that there is nothing like a good written guide, that explains everything (and this book hits EVERYTHING). Many of the points made in Ms. Bampton's book make you want to stop and try it right then and I do. The writing style is comfortable, the teaching accurate and this is simply a great LR 5 book.Then you get to the bonus parts of getting not only the e-book, as Ms. Bampton said herself, is actually the primary version of her work (absolutely great to keep on a tablet and handy as a more mobile reference), but getting this hard copy too. Best of both worlds!!Plus, besides the great e-book, and a hard copy backup, you get a premium membership on her website to keep up with the latest.Highly recommended; the e-book, hard copy and the website. Try it all! You'll like it all!!

I am new to Lightroom 5 and this book will be my only published reference for it. Looking forward to having it available when I have a question.

This book gives detailed information about Lightroom. I read the Lightroom 4 FAQs completely thru. It really helped me get a handle on what Lightroom can do. I have been using the Lightroom 5 FAQ book as a reference. One of the best things about the book is you can download a pdf copy of the book form Victoria's site. This works great to look up questions one has while trying to use Lightroom. Using this book along with Scott Kelby's "Lightroom 5 book for digital photographers", you can really start to be able to use Lightroom and get the benefits of the program.

Have the Lightroom 4 version of this, and it was just what I like to have for a reference, so after upgrading to Lightroom 5, this was a no-brainer.A rather significant value-add, is that even though I really appreciate a "real" book, the readily downloadable ebook versions of her book, as well as access to the Q&A website have proven to be invaluable. When I'm traveling, I can have the ebook with me much more easily than the printed copy.

This is exactly what I needed!This is truly like a missing manual. From the first page, I felt at ease with the detail and writing style of this manual. It certainly has answered a lot of my questions in the first days of having it.I ordered another book on LR5 from another author. The other book seemed to assume I knew LR well and just needed to tweak my knowledge. Not so!I can tell this will be the one I turn to time and again as I learn more about this incredible program.

I own 2 books on LR 5, the other by a very popular author and excellent teacher in his own right. That being said, if you can only purchase one book this is the book you should get. If you plan on getting multiple books, make this the first. I started with LR 3.6 and then upgraded to LR 5, I really wish I had gotten this book with LR 3. She takes what might otherwise be difficult concepts and make them very easy to understand. The writing is very fluid and easy to follow, and even fun to read. Start here and then develop your own style as you gain experience with LR. If you have been using LR for a while, I have no doubt this book will be a great value.

This book quickly became my "go-to" book. I also have Scott Kelby's book, which I like, but Victoria Bampton's book shines. I was skeptical about receiving a B&W copy, but it is great. I can also read a full color version on my iPad wherever I am. Questions are so quickly answered with easily understood solutions. I have yet to have an unanswered question. The online support is awesome. I highly recommend this book and the added bonuses (web site, iPad version, etc.) for easy answers.

This book is not a self-help book, nor is it a book on philosophy. It explains how ordinary people who hope to actually accomplish some of their worthy resolutions to improved actions might succeed at that. The path is neither easy nor short, but the day-to-day changes that can be accomplished are backed up with centuries of success, and each step forward is a step in the right direction. Year after year I have resolved that the next year I will become a better person, and I sincerely desired to do so. Yet my progress is so slow that I sometimes wonder if I have made any progress at all.In Everyday Holiness the branch is held back so I can see the path away from my wandering and really move forward in small practical daily steps. Now moving forward is up to me, and the time-efficient methods developed in the 19th century make this the 21st century person's optimal approach. I will use this book not just as a beginning, but will read sections of it over and over. I hope that one day my newly-autographed copy will look like the well-worn map at the end of a wonderful trip. My trip will be different than the trip you take with the same map, but I believe it's the right map for many worthy and individualized trips.

This book improved my life and the lives of those around me. Even if you are not Jewish, this is a much better approach to improving your life than a thousand self help books because it takes the thinking of those sages who devoted their lives to character improvement and uses their words and ideas. For Jews who are unacquainted with the Mussar Movement, this is a welcome introduction.

This book really is helpful in translating Mussar to a language we can understand, and I recommend it as a primer. I am glad I read it. The problem with it is the author doesn't sufficiently interrogate his own point of view, and thereby makes assumptions the reader may not share - which possibly is not so much a problem as it is a pointer to a need for other books, other voices. If my first detailed exposure to Mussar had been a passage from this book, i am not likely to have pursued it. Instead, I came to this book via an article in Tablet Magazine by a rabbi named Regina Sandler-Phillips called "Red Light, Green Light: How Traffic Observance Dovetails With Ethical Choices," posted November 12, 2014. Morinis's vision of Mussar is one we want, but not in isolation.

Without question Everyday Holiness is one of the most inspiring books I've ever read. As I read each section, I took time to absorb it and put it to use in my life. As a Psychotherapist I can say they knew what they were saying 5000 years ago it is as applicable to our lives today as it has been century after century. If you are looking for the spirituality in Judaism, you have found it here.

This superb book outlines Mussar quite clearly, and is marvelous for Jews and non-Jews alike (I am an Episcopalian). Mussar is not a way of doing self-help; it is a program -- developed over centuries -- for deploying attributes (midot) in one's life to become closer to God and to fellow humans. It gives a truly eye-opening new way of seeing our issues, others' issues, society's issues. The audio is also wonderful; I toggle back and forth between it and the book.

So glad I found this book! It's exactly what everyone could use in their life--learning how to be compassionate, a better human being. Excellent for self-study for all spiritual beliefs and religions.

It's a book on mp3 cd so it's playability is limited to a computer or compatable dvd player. For the price I would have liked to be able to listen to it in my car.

The book will change your life. It is not like the modern day self-help genre.

I wish that there was a six star option. I'm a dentist, and I have just enough medical knowledge to be dangerous. Cannot recommend it more highly. If you can only buy one medical reference book, this is IT!

Dr. La Guardia does a very thorough job of describing effective alternatives to standard treatment for times when those methods are not available or out of reach. We all know the value of antibiotics when properly used to treat a wound infection but what if those antibiotics are needed yet not available? What do you do then? Well, Dr. La Guardia goes into detail on how to most effectively manage such things when the standard methods are not available and often using things that can be found in most households. This is exactly the sort of information people need access to; A sort of urban wilderness medicine book for when the urban setting becomes for all practical purposes, the wilderness.Those who understand the value of being able to manage their own needs in times of scarcity will value the practical information in this book. I have 14 books on emergency medicine. This by far is the very best as the author is deadly serious about the subjects he covers in great detail. There is serious reading in his book and I comfortably recommend this book very highly. Study this book in great detail, read , reread and then read it again until it is fixed in your mind. Also covers natural medicine just in case you run out of prescription medicine.

This book is the piece of garbage. I was a commercial real estate agent, with Marcus and Millichap, in Los Angeles. Specializing in Multifamily apartment buildings. The writer talks about the general idea. He doesn't teach you how to evaluate the property. How to calculate NOI and derive a price based on a CAP rate. The writer does not explain how to calculate IRR internal Rates of Return. You must know IRR when you talk to sophisticated investors. You need to learn rent rate in the area and then you can have a feeling if a property has a proforma price appreciation. There are much better books to read than This one. Do not waste your time, trust me. If you want to learn about commercial real estate investments. Get real estate license and work for a well established commercial real estate firm. Then you will grasp an idea and will know what to do. You will learn how to cold call and how to deal with landlords. The writer tells you about generic strategies. This book is horrible, not details oriented. Just General overexaggerated concept. Real life does not work that way. The writer doesn't tell you how to look for the numerical values. and how to structure syndication. You would have to have an Attorney and CPA to do it for you. It will cost you an arm and a leg. He is upselling his services. Instead read Frank Gallinelli. "What every real estate investor needs to know about cash flow." You will learn real staff. Do not waste your time and money on this book. Moreover, in today's overpriced real-estate with low CAP rates, it is improbable to make a great return on your investments. In California, Cap Rates are below 5%. at the best and go as low as 3%. You will not make money on such returns, As rates will go up, Commercial Reals estate will collapse, price wise. You can make more money buying high dividend stocks. Moreover, one needs a minimum of 40% -50% down-payment in this day and age. Especially in California. Cap rates are low and it presents the risk to lenders, in addition, investors will need one year proof of funds for the emergency. Deposited in the bank. Lenders also want experience. Lenders Do not just lend money. Once you get bigger you can hire a property management company. First purchase is tough. without cash. I wasted money on this book. I have not learned anything interesting, Do not waste yours. There are better books. This is garbage.

Like many people, I have been interested in real estate investing for a long time but started with 1-4 unit (aka single-family) properties because they seemed “touchable.” I wanted to buy apartment buildings, but they just seemed too big, I didn’t have the money, knowledge, or experience to do THAT. After years of trudging, I realized I just wasn’t making progress fast enough with single-family properties to reach my financial freedom goals in this lifetime. I decided to step back and reassess my plan. In so doing, I came to the conclusion that the only way to reach my goals was with apartment buildings. I didn’t know how I was going to do that, but I had to find a way.Enter Michael Blank. I discovered him on the BiggerPockets forum and began consuming his articles and podcasts. I wish I had been introduced to this information years ago!! Since then I have become one of his students, and purchased several of his courses. The information is fantastic, well rounded, and detailed.When I discovered Michael was writing this book, I was excited to read it, and it did not disappoint. In it he covers many key aspects of apartment building investing, the ones that most of us probably feel are preventing us from succeeding, or even trying to invest in this real estate category.He starts with his personal story (it is nice to hear that others have faced adversity and still succeeded). Then he covers what is necessary to do your first deal, how to raise the money you need by developing an investor network (one of the key differences between single-family properties and multifamily (5+ unit) properties is that it is much easier to get investor capital for multifamily). The best way to find deals, how to analyze deals, and how to get past your personal limiting beliefs with what he calls the Vision Map. Then he outlines how to take your vision, and use it to create “bite-sized” steps to accomplish each day so you can reach your larger goal. Looking out 6-12 months makes most of us freeze in overwhelm, and his process helps overcome this. Then in the final section he covers the details of deal negotiation, performing due diligence, closing escrow, and managing the property. There are just too many components to write about, but all of it is well written and extremely informative.This is a must read if you are even considering real estate investing. I wish I had this book available years ago when I started in single-family. I would have saved countless hours, been much more successful, and by now accomplished my goal.

You'll definitely want to take notes as you're reading, because the scripts and action plans in this book are game changers.All that being said, real estate investing is hard work, and Michael doesn't sugar coat that. I am a big fan of several of Christopher Paul Curtis books, but this one was just too boring for me. A lot of it was a little too far fetched compared to his stories found in his other books. I was under the understanding that this was a continuation of mostly true story of the town of Buxton in Canada. I am an adult, so take that into consideration.

I loved this companion book to Elijah of Buxton. A tender telling of a good story, and a well-done take on black-white friendship. And a pretty good plot...so it's enjoyable on several levels. And there's nothing quite like this one.

B liked the stories about the civil war. So much history woven nicely into the main stories. Mom liked how a love of nature, family, learning and humor shined through the narrative from the beginning. Some tough history and family events but everything intertwined nicely with the movement of the story. Beautiful!

Mr. Curtis is a magician with words. His books a delicacy - savor slowly- before digesting the wisdom. Although it is not a sequel to Elijah- it should be shared immediately afterward. Warning to grade 4-6 teachers -as with Elijah there are powerfully graphic images so please read the novel before sharing. Elijah of Buxton, forever my favorite, but boys who are mature enough to follow two story lines will learn deep lessons.
