Another awesome book by Jay McLean, including all the feels and humor with lovable characters. I loved and adored Blake Hunter just as much as Jake Andrews from her More Than series. Blake meets Chloe one fateful evening and after helping her, they hang out a little bit and then he can't seem to get her out of his mind. As it turns out, she's been at his school for years but he hasn't noticed her until now, because Chloe doesn't want to be noticed at all. Blake appears to have a lot going for him, he's a rich kid on the basketball team with a possible pro career, he's smart and down to earth, has a cheerleader girlfriend and he's popular. Chloe grew up in foster care and as likable and down to earth as she is, she struggles with her previous losses and the fate of her potential future. The real Blake on the inside is someone who actually connects well with Chloe. However, Chloe isn't having any of it, she doesn't want to be anyone's friend, even if that person happens to be as amazing and persistent as Blake Hunter. Chloe's walls are high and thick, but she and Blake and Josh wind up friends anyway. Chloe's plan is to take off on a self-directed road trip after graduation and nothing or no one is going to get in her way. Blake is frantic to hold on to whatever scraps of friendship she will share with him because it's only with her does he feel whole and complete. I don't think there was anything I didn't like about Blake, he went above and beyond. He cares for Chloe so much and accepts whatever she will give him without being deterred. His own future is uncertain, but he is certain about Chloe. Chloe's reason for pushing people away is a protective measure for her, but more so for other people, at least that's her rationale. I understood where she was coming from even though I didn't like it for her or for the other people. As much as it seems like Blake was putting everything on the line for Chloe, Chloe does give back to Blake as well so it's not just a one-way street. She simply can't offer more but as she's slowing learning, her road may take her somewhere better than she originally intended if she makes that choice. The secondary characters really add to the story as well, I loved them all, too - Josh, Celia, Mary, Dean, Clayton and the kids. This story is about weathering the bad times in order to celebrate the good times in life and to live life to the fullest surrounded by unconditional love from people who genuinely care.

I've never ever experienced a book like this, and that's extremely hard to say for me because I read so much. For a topic that is so near and dear to my heart I can't even express the emotions and the memories this book brought up. My heart ached for Chloe but that ache made me want to root for her so much more. And my dearest, most dedicated Blake! He was what a girl in Chloe's situation should dream for. I'm so obsessed with this story, I could go on and on about it but in reality you just have to READ it and EXPERIENCE it for yourself to understand. I've always been a fan of Jay McLean form her very first book and they've all be so amazing but I swear, I'm seeing nothing but Red Letter Days for her career in this writing world. She's an inspiration to me and Where The Road Takes Me is forever imprinted onto my heart and soul.

This book is pure and utter Brilliance. I've read all of the More Series Books, I've cried during each and everyone of them. So I was prepared to cry during this one too. But I didn't expect what I got.I had some misty eyed moments, here and there, I cried, really cried at some point, like right before the halfway mark, but when I broke down I really broke down. Jay was able to take these words and turn them into utter Brilliance. This book has laughter, Jay is famous for her One-Liners after all. It has love, I'm a huge romantic, and Jay McLean has this amazing skill to take words and string them together to make you fall in love right as the characters do. It has Heart, there is something that Jay puts into her books that you can just feel as soon as you open the cover.Pure and utter brilliance, Jay McLean outdid herself with this book!Full review to go up soon on my blog

Trust that the most unexpected person to fall into your life will actually be your life and soul. Jay McLean does not write to write, she writes to feel. She puts herself 100% all in with emotion and heart from the second the words form with in her. You cannot just read Jay McLean…you feel her from the top of your head way down to your toes. From the thoughts in your brain to the depths of your heart. She can evoke feels from places you didn't know existed and never dreamed possible.Where the Road Takes Me was the most unexpected things I've ever read from her. I had nothing to go on except “it’s Jay McLean”… and it was better, way better than I could have thought of. I was blown away by her sheer ability to write a great story. One that I can completely lose myself in over and over and over again. One that will stick to me even after it’s been read. One that even days later, can make me quote or re-read sections because it was THAT GOOD.The characters…oh the characters…FANTASTIC!!! I fell in love with each of them so hard. I mean Chloe… adorable, troubled and strong as hell Chloe. Melted my heart in eleventy three different ways. BLAKE HUNTER is a freak’n GOD!!! “I placed his hand against my heart so he could feel the impact this had on me. You've just completed me”…DIED!!! I mean who recovers from that??? Jay McLean had me brought down to puddles of emotional mush just from the sheer building of this relationship!DO NOT even get me started on the friendships in this book. I mean AMAZING!!! Everyone’s characters evolved and matured in the course of a summer to the point where I couldn't imagine NOT reading them. Friendships were made and lives were changed. I was in awe of how seamless Jay made everything. Josh and his determination, Blake and his blind faith, Chloe and her acceptance nearly killed me.“And that’s when it happened. Something changed. A switch. It felt like someone had taken away the grey dullness behind my eyes and splashed color into them”. That’s what Jay has done to me. She has turned on the light and I see beautiful vivid color. She has taken me to a point of no return as a reader. She has held my hand through the heartache to heal and be rebuilt again. This book was amazing, beautiful, thoughtful and above all else magnificent. It is her best work yet. I am so proud of Jay and this book and all that it represents to her and the book world. She has turned my world red in more ways than one and I will be forever grateful. This book is 100% worth all of the love and feels that you will receive from it. 5 STAR READ ALL THE WAY!!!
