Love her writing. As a sometime knitter, I was completely sucked in. Found laugh out loud moments and thought insights that Gave me food for thought. Author is unpretentious, no ax to grind, articulate and it seems her only agenda is to share her thoughts and add some charming humor to the mix. You just about have to be a knitter to get some of the humor but you don’t have to be a good knitter...so people like me had no problem following the little stories in these writings.

Read the Yarn Harlot and loved it. Read At Knits End, and liked it. Started this and noticed many of the micro-chapters were all too familiar or very common sense to her previous books. I feel like I've read this before. I'm glad I bought this 2nd hand. I'll likely not get another one of her books if this is what I have to look forward to (same thing, different book cover). I'd hoped for humor and instead, I was a little bored.

If you are looking for patterns for entrelac toilet paper cozies, this isn't the right book. If you are looking for a book to help rationalize making such a thing, which of course would require investment of time and money to research and acquire the perfect pattern and the perfect yarn, let alone making the darn thing, this book is great! Or if you just want to snicker at some of the antics of truly obsessed knitaholics smug in your relief that you aren't THAT far gone (yet), that's ok too. Whether you are a knitter or are trying to understand one, and there isn't a KnitAnon or similar support group for loved ones of crazed knitters, at least you'll know you're not alone,

I have 5 or 6 books by Pearl-McPhee and I LOVE them! I read bits of them out loud to my non-knitting Hubby. If you like/love to knit, and have even a tiny piece of a funny bone in your baby toe, you will like these books. If you have a great sense of humor, you will LOVE these books! I would love to sit with Ms. Pearl-McPhee and just listen to her while I am knitting. If only I could get Hubby to read these books out loud to me while I am knitting....

Entertainment extraordinaire, with life lessons explained! How does knitting fit in today's busy busy world and do you think you might enjoy this very old pastime? Find out as you read Things I Learned from Knitting... whether I wanted to or not. This is a handy little book that will fit into a small bag. It is very very funny. I found myself laughing out loud more than once as I was reading it. The author, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee lives in Canada; she speaks and writes the Queen's English, thus the reader must often think, more than a wee bit, to extract all the meaning. That makes it all the more enjoyable. The author uses 45 old adages which illustrate life lessons and she contrasts and compares cognitive psychology to the thought processes used in knitting. That being said I think it will make a wonderful graduation present for my close friend, a young wife, mother, and knitter, who just spent the last ten years working toward her PhD in Biomedical Engineering with a speciality in Oncology. With that accomplished she now has more time to knit and to get on with life's lessons learned!!!

Uncontrollable laughter while you are reading a book is a pleasure, but a tad embarrassing when in a group of total strangers. Worse yet, I tried reading this book while at a conference where I was supposed to be listening to the (rather dull) speaker. Another mistake! She is hilarious. She spells out 45 lessons that she has learned from knitting. Her descriptions of flinging the knitting across the room, using words our children shouldn't be exposed to, and opening another glass of wine while reading a lace pattern, for example, are all things that most knitters can relate to. Read it and LAUGH in recognition!

As I lay in bed after having bought this for my Kindle/iPad, I had to say that I adore this book and I am only on the "10th" thing. Her style of writing as if she was having a conversation or freely telling a story with her own peanut gallery comments has led me to laugh louder then I should at this time of night......and I love it! I'm very green to knitting but already appreciate many stories and have really enjoyed how she relates knitting to "real life". My only negative comment is that I fear I will not get to sleep anytime soon as I want to finish it tonight. I should get back to reading...........:)

One of my favorite books by Pearl-McPhee. Chapters can be read independently. Very witty and fun. The author describes the creativity process with humor and awareness. I don't knit, but I am a designer and can relate to the struggles that come with striving to produce a quality item. Recommended reading :D

When I realized the author wasn't even around during the time Jimi was playing, I almost wrote the book off on that basis. That would have been a huge mistake.My very special friend, Glenn, obtained two tickets to see Jimi at Madison Square Garden, and invited me along. The music was incredible. I still recall All Along the Watchtower, and much of what was on Electric Ladyland. The stage was in the center of the house and it slowly turned. To make things even wierder, tons of picture flashes continued to go off. I have often thought Jimi must have disliked having that stage turn and nothing being done about all the camera flashes, as though he was in the circus, and when the book got to that show, it confirmed my assumption.On a second occasion, with my same friend, we went to see what was billed as the "Festival for Peace" at Madison Square Garden, but fortunately this time, the stage was at the end of the floor and stationary. Jimi played just a few songs, and I was utterly blown away with a smile ear to ear. Wish you were all there, as attempting to explain that experience is impossible to do with words. After just a few songs, Jimi let his guitar fall to the floor and walked off stage. I never understood what the problem was, since he sounded amazing. The book touches on that show as well and provides insight.As I began reading this book, I was a bit turned off by all the detail behind Jimi's family, and very young years, but this detail proved essential in having a proper context to understand much that followed, choices Jimi made, and revealed Jimi the person, not the star.This book is an excellent place to start, or finish, for that matter, for any one looking to read about Jimi. So many people that knew Jimi particularly well, have been extremely generous to share such intimate details. This book pulls you in, bringing the past into the present leaving you feeling as though you were there, during each step of the journey.The details in this book are just incredible. The time Jimi spent in England, personal relationships, friends, fans, fellow muscisians sharing stories. Wow!Jimi left us too early, but with a body of work that stands among the best ever recorded. To read this book is also to understand Jimi the person, full of sound, fury, and a huge heart with a tender soul.Awesome job Mr. Cross. Thank you for writing this.Gary

Interesting account of the life of Jimi Hendrix. Music journalist Charles Cross brings Hendrix to life in these pages, and you get a feel for what made him into one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I think people should read this even if they aren't huge fans of Jimi Hendrix.

Charles Cross does a wonderful job of capturing the complex life of Jimi Hendrix.After reading his book I come away with one thought that kept nagging at me and that was that Jimi Hendrix was decades ahead of his time.Anyone curious about the inner workings of Rock stars and all the touring that ends up draining their energy will not be disappointed in this book.One of the most profound things I have ever read occurs On page 225 where Jimi is quoted as saying one time..."When the power of love overcomes the love of power...the world will know peace."There are no boring sections in this book....quite the contrary as I found myself resentful of anything or anyone that got in the way of my reading time.I highly recommend this book to those like me who came of age in that wonderful time of the 60's and also to those younger who want to gain some insight into what makes a Rock n roll legend like Jimi Hendriks tick and whose life was snuffed out way too soon.

The best biography I've read of Jimi Hendrix. It's one of those books that's hard to put down once you start reading. Lots of detail of his early life and final days.

Great for listening in the car. Sad for such a young talent to live so short. Jimi was the greatest ambassador of the electric guitar..

I have a couple Bible atlases (the Holman is also superb, especially for the narrative), but for the purpose of simply looking up locations, this is the best I've ever seen. Here are the strengths:1) Huge format, 15" x 10". This means that those myriad locations aren't jammed into a tiny space in the back of your bible -- if the index says "B5," you can actually find it.2) National Geographic maps. Nothing more need be said.3) Complete index.4) Brief narrative and some useful charts opposite each map. Some of the narratives are "Sunday-schoolish," but that's OK.5) Surprisingly good binding. I don't know bindery terms, but this is heavy, durable paper, stitched into three folios, and glued to a very heavy paper cover. For the price, I was expecting cheaper paper and glue only. With reasonable care, this book will last a good while.6) Price, price, price! Buy one for yourself, one for the church library, and one for every Sunday School room.Weak points are very minor, and don't detract at all:1) I can't imagine ever needing, or being interested in, a map of "Ezekiel's Vision of 12 Restored Tribes" (map 11).2) Maps 9 & 10, David/Solomon's Jerusalem and Second Temple Jerusalem, could easily have been put on a single page. I would love a map of modern Jerusalem, overlaying the ancient sites.3) Any attempt to put all of Paul's journeys on a single map, as here, is inevitably confusing. I would prefer a smaller, separate map for each.This is an amazing value: it belongs in every church, and on every Bible student's shelf.

Frankly, I have not seen such a large and detailed set of maps since I was a seminary student. The price was incredibly low for such a complete set of maps.

I am currently studying Kings and Chronicles. The map helps me to understand where the places are and has bible references with the area. Nice.

The maps in the CEB Study Bible are wonderful. As a result, when I discovered that this book was available, I ordered one. With the information given telling what each map is illustrating and which Bible book it can be found in, I find myself using the maps more than I ever did before. I attend an adult Bible study that has been meeting at 7 AM every Wednesday for breakfast and in depth study. The book is wonderful to use there because of the oversized maps and the strong material that they are printed on. I think every church should have one of these books available in its library.

The first thing that caught my eye about this book was the cover photo. It is somewhat reminiscent of another vegan cookbook I have, Vegan Diner by Julie Hasson. I'm always up for variations on a theme, so I went ahead and purchased the Kindle version. Boy, did I get not only a surprise but also a treat! NYC Vegan is far more than "just another diner-type" cookbook, highlighting the cultural variety that is New York City. The recipe section is peppered with personal anecdotes, quotes, and interesting facts about NYC, which, just like the rest of the book, are written with wry humor, warmth, an obvious passion for all that encompasses veganism, and a refreshing lack of preachiness.The recipes are uninvolved, easy to follow, and tasty. If you've been vegan for a while, you won't be stumped by any of the ingredients, nor are they difficult to find. I live in a small town in northern Indiana, not exactly vegan Mecca, and can get almost everything in one of the two major local grocery chains. If ever I need to shop for something else, I order from Amazon (small tip on the side for those haters of "exotic ingredients").These recipes are not gluten-free, although substitutions are often suggested. If you insist on photos for every recipe and/or cannot live without detailed nutritional information, this book is not for you.My omnivore husband has so far enjoyed most of the meals I have made from NYC Vegan. Here is a complete list of recipes I have made thus far, with remarks:The BasicsChock Full o'Nuts Milk - creamy and delicious, this is a deluxe version of the basic, unsweetened nut milk I usually makePizza Dough - my new go-to. Contains slightly less sugar than most other pizza dough recipes I've used in the past (sugar feeds the yeast)Basic Seitan - no aluminum foil required, which I very much appreciate. This came out with perfect texture. It is very lightly seasoned and thus great for dishes that will include spicy sauces. We used it in gyros.Chicken-Style Seitan - couldn't find any poultry spice at the store (weird, right?), so I made my own mix. Be aware that your type of vegan chicken bouillon may not dissolve well in cold water - mine didn't and thus required a bit more "muscle" to mix it properly. This seitan is very easy to make. My husband found that it resembles the texture of cooked chicken rather well. We used it in the Avgolemono Soup (see below). The recipe makes plenty of seitan so you can try different recipes.Cashew Parmesan - easy and tastyTofu Ricotta - I made this for the lasagna and loved the flavor. When I made it, I ended up with slightly less than 3 cups but that worked for me. However, note that the lasagna recipe actually calls for 3.5 cups of ricotta, so consider making extra!Rice Paper Ham - I've seen a recipe for rice paper bacon before, so I thought 'why not'. Easy and fast to prepare. Fry as briefly as indicated for a softer ham, or a bit longer to make it slightly crunchy. I used it on Pizza Hawaii and thought it was a very nice sub for real ham.Breakfast at Tiffany'sDiner-style Pancakes - easy, fast, delicious. If you keep them warm as suggested, they will remain fluffy. Just be sure to properly cover themBlueberry Sauce - just made it this morning to go with the Banana Bread French Toast. I don't like super sweet things, so I reduced the sugar by half, which was fine. I'm also not a fan of chunky berry sauces; I mashed the blueberries with a potato masher once they turned soft.Banana Bread and Banana Bread French Toast - this is the first vegan French toast I've made that LOOKS like French toast! Because the banana bread is quite rich, this is an opulent breakfast, even at only two slices per serving. I think the banana bread itself is quite wonderful with a gorgeous crumb. If your bananas are very ripe, be sure to measure after mashing only a couple - two came out to be a cup for me. I went with the oil-reduced option, adding applesauce; you can't tell at all. Because of the very ripe bananas and since the bread also contains chocolate chips, I reduced the sugar by 1/4, and it's perfect for my taste.Irish Soda Bread - easy peasy. Makes a handy small loaf of bread.Matzoh Brei - my first time venturing into this kind of breakfast, and I loved it. Easy, quick, not too sweet, it reminds me of the Austrian pancake specialty Kaiserschmarrn.Fruit Smoothie - I enjoyed the combination of peach, orange, and silken tofu (along with other fruit). A refreshing breakfast that could be make ahead.Green Smoothie - even easier than the fruit smoothie, as this has only four ingredients. Flavors of a pina colada with a handful of good-for-you greens mixed in.Power LunchAvgolemono Soup - I've been missing good Greek food since moving to Podunk, Indiana, so I was tickled to find this recipe in NYC Vegan. I didn't have any long-grain white rice so I used leftover dry orzo instead. Orzo cooks in only ten minutes and is a great substitute if you find yourself in a hurry. I also like my lemony things quite tart, so I used the entire 1/3 cup of juice. The husband made a bit of a face but then had seconds, anyway.Waldorf Salad - very fruity, but amazingly light-tasting. Keeps well in the fridgeWhite Sauce - I made this for the gyros, and it worked great!Start Spreading the NewsNo-cook Tomato Sauce - prepared this for the lasagna. I used the option of canned tomatoes, since that's what I had. Uncomplicated and tasty.Supper ClubLasagna - my husband asked for seconds. We finished the leftovers the following day. Yes, it is THAT delicious! Since I had leftover vegan mozzarella, I added it to the dish for extra cheesinessFarmer's MarketRoasted Asparagus - great, easy recipe if you're not sure what to do with that asparagus you bought on impulse.How Sweet It IsBig Apple Pie - or, more precisely, the crust which in my case I turned into a strawberry rhubarb pie. It wasn't quite as flaky as a full-dairy butter crust, but came very, very close. My husband loves it. I'm about to use it again for a cherry pie.Banana Bread - see comment under Breakfast at Tiffany'sChocolate Syrup - super fast, super delicious! I found myself stirring the pot more than necessary just so I could lick the spoon! I used 1/2 cup cocoa powder and 1/4 cup raw cacao powder, as well as a little less sugar than indicated.As you can see from the selection, these are not for the faint-hearted dieter, but rather real meals veganized. Yes, you will use tofu, there are plenty of nuts, and meat substitutes in various forms make an appearance, especially in the Supper Club section. If you can live with all of that, do not hesitate to get yourself a copy of this excellent book.

Being a new vegetarian – again – I am almost vegan with many of my choices. I realized in order to eat certain things I need to learn how to Veganize them.This is a good cookbook. I own this book and am really enjoying it I haven't cooked my way through it yet but it is on my list of musts. Many of these recipes are hard to find in vegan form and there are so many great ones! Eye popping photos too. I wish there was a near by restaurant where I could pop out and pick up some of these dishes to go, but I guess I'll have to find a free evening to make them. I appeciate the content and the dedication is so sweet(you are not supposed to like a book for it's dedication but how can you not?)

Excellent, like every book by T.Horn. He is at the top of his game.Steve Quayle, L.A. Marzulli and Timothy Alberino are also amazing.This is a must read for anyone interested in what's to come before the great and glorious appearing of our LORD and Saviour JESUS CHRIST.

Everyone should read this book because it paves the road to what will be seen in the very near future and the direction of mankind. It was insightful and I learned much about the nefarious minds behind the agenda(s).
